L’amour en Noir

Wishing you a lovely Valentines Day from Embro Industries. Valentines Day is such a weird day for a society thriving off of the thought of  hook-up culture. So many different views on the word love are expressed in different ways. Yet satisfaction from that love you must feel is taken for granted on the day.

It seems like every Valentines Day, someone is either miserable or receiving the most flowers that they have ever received from a significant other who may or may not mean it. Either way I view Valentines Day as another day to love more and express it selflessly. For this project I decided to add love to a theme, so I present to you L’amour en Noir.

Photographer @nvmwrath headlines the shots Featuring Models Sky’,Phil’, Makinna’, and Giogette’ as we were able to capture the glory and power of beauty as it relates to love. With lighting and crew @twentyshottzz and MUA design by artist Giogette we got to capture exactly that.

It’s important that as black creatives, we are in love with the creativity that makes up our individuality. Being able to exude and transfer that on cam is a process but comes with ease to the models. The shoot took place in the comfort of my living room as I used 100’s of flowers and sewed them together with fishing line for about two days, and wrapping the entire living room in luxurious golden backgrounds to capture a French museum effect.

The images above were also captured behind the scenes by @twentyshottzz. We used the fixtures of red lighting and suttle clear seats to make the models a muse. They used their form and style to represent the melancholy desire of the “statue.” A look into the melancholy stature of what the models were going for.

Dans la chasse d'eau de la lumière de l'amour

Nous osons être courageux

Et soudain, nous voyons

Que l'amour coûte tout ce que nous sommes

Et ne le sera jamais.

Pourtant, ce n'est que l'amour qui nous libère

~Maya Angelou

This project was something I deeply admire and enjoyed because it took time to design. Making art in any form is a process that comes with the desire to meet a vision. The vision I had, had to be perfected and so time was quickly taken up to acompass the result. Beauty is power as much as it can be pain. But the beauty inside you relays its ways by how you move inside. Continue to do good as good is done to you, because love does not come on one day, as it should be everyday. Enjoy the days of love doing what you love with people you can share love with.

Look at for more brought to you by these artist, because our next project, you won’t want to miss!
